PRAY AND STUDY

Sue O’Donnell. 17.09.20

“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” (Psalm 145 v 18)

Pray and study, study and pray therefore.

We pray to talk with the Lord God.

We study the sacred Scriptures,

And our Father in heaven,

Together with the Saviour Jesus,

And the sanctifying Spirit of life,

They as a Trinity, talk with us.

So how is this two way conversation to be?

Prayerful conversation is love’s dedication,

Whether from us to the Lord God,

Or any Person of the Trinity addressing us directly.

The tone is to be full of good purpose,

To fill our heart with true love;

To occupy our mind with all that is wondrous;

Beneficial, bountiful and God made to be beautiful;

To shape our conversation that it be gracious;

And to source our life with loving kindness,

All that is benefitting a child of God.

As the Trinity call us to become holy,

Reading the sacred Scriptures prayerfully;

Obeying the holy wisdom and truth therein;

Forming an all loving, ever trusting relationship

With each member of the Trinity separately;

Adhering to their co-ordinated teaching;

Praying as our mind and heart are led;

Interceding for the needs of all who are broken;

Supporting anybody needy with the love shown to us;

And of course, essentially, relying upon the †of Jesus;

To be the tool of our redemption and means of mercy.

We become holy only by persevering wholeheartedly,

Striving to develop a better likeness to Jesus.

That blessed be God now and eternally,

By us brought fully alive in the Lord Jesus,

According to the marvellous life enhancing,

Hope building, peace developing, joy sharing Holy Spirit.

For we trust fully in God’s grace,

As shared with us by our Saviour, the Lord Jesus,

For He invites us to be His kingdom builders and co-workers.

“The Kingdom of God is ...righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14 v 17)

“For (s)he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.” (Romans 14 v 18)

“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.” (Romans 14 v 19) So, let us pray. Amen.
